Sheila, Munni banned in C’garh town
Authorities of Korba, an industrial town of Chhattisgarh, on Thursday banned playing of chart-toppers “Sheila Ki Jawani” and “Munni Badnaam Hui” in public, following growing incidents of harassment of girls with these names in the city. Korba district collector R.P.S. Tyagi issued a notification barring playing of audio and video cassettes featuring the popular item songs in public places, including schools, colleges and hospitals.
Even people are denied to tune on the songs on their mobiles at these places.
“I have ordered officials concerned to strictly enforce the ban. The songs have threatened to disturb public order. Girls and women with these names have been subjected to harassment by miscreants who showed them indecent gestures by playing these songs”, Mr Tyagi told this newspaper.
The police said around 60 complaints of harassment by anti-social elements have been lodged in different police stations by the victims in Korba town of Chhattisgarh in the past one month after release of these songs. The girls with these names, studying in schools and colleges, are the worst victims.
The decision to ban playing of these songs in public places comes in the wake of women from all walks of life in the town making a series of representations to the district collector calling for immediate action to protect them.
