Sheila not invited to key function
The first day of the sale of tickets for the Commonwealth Games indicated that all is not well between the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee headed by Suresh Kalmadi and Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. The chief minister was not invited in the function, which was otherwise attended by the Delhi lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna and the city mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney.
Mr Kalmadi handed over the first ticket to Mr Khanna, while the second ticket was given to Mr Sawhney.
Later in the evening, Ms Dikshit told reporters that she was not invited for the function, while remarking that “it does not matter”. “I am not even aware of such a function. I was not invited for this. Tickets are not awards,” said Mrs Dikshit, who repeated that she was not even aware of the function.
The Organising Committee headed by Mr Kalmadi had reportedly tried to invite the President, Pratibha Patil, for the function and after failing in that he had reportedly tried to invite the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. At last, the Delhi lieutenant governor was invited for the function.
