Sheila response astonishing: BJP

Describing Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s response over the Shunglu Committee findings as “astonishing”, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should now take a call on the issue. The party said it was an “unusual and unacceptable position” that Ms Dikshit rejected the findings of the report without even reading the report of the committee, set up by the Prime Minister himself on the Commonwealth Games (CWG) issue.

The party demanded that Prime Minister and the Congress leadership should clarify their stand on this.
The Congress, meanwhile, dubbed as “ridiculous and hilarious”, BJP’s questioning the manner in which the Delhi government rejected the findings of the report.
Speaking on the issue, BJP national spokesperson, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “We wish to put on record our concern that after the report of the Shunglu Committee was submitted the response of the Delhi government is astonishing to say the least. The Congress-led government has rejected the report of a commission appointed by the Prime Minister himself.”
The party said the Delhi CM should explain the reasons for rejecting the report, maintaining that Ms Dikshit had not even read it. The BJP also attacked the UPA on the black money issue maintaining that the government has not come clear on what investigations it was carrying on in this issue and the source of black money.
“The Cabinet rejects the report even before they have read it. The Congress government in Delhi stands charged with various omissions and commissions. The Prime Minister and the Congress president should come out openly on this display of defiance,” Ms Sitharaman said.
The BJP leader sought to know how Delhi CM could say the report is not based on facts and talk about forming a three-member committee to study the report and answer “para by para” the charges made in it against the Delhi government.
The party also demanded that a deadline be set for taking action against the guilty and the people should be informed about the action taken. The main opposition also demanded that all CWG related cases be brought under one umbrella.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said “The BJP has lost the moral right to ask any question till it apologises for misleading the country (on the Wikileaks issue).”
Mr Tewari said leaders who have rejected their own ideology do not have any moral right to ask any questions.
He also refused to comment on the Shunglu committee findings saying the Congress party would wait till the government takes a definite
view on the matter.
