Shettar writes to pm: cauvery order ‘unfair’
Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to “reject” Friday’s order by the Cauvery Monitoring Committee asking the Karnataka government to release 12 TMC water to Tamil Nadu in the month of December.
Calling the CMC’s order “unfair” and “highly disadvantageous” to his state, Mr Shettar in his letter said the CMC had doubled the quantum of water to be released regardless of its own roadmap that was decided earlier.
“The direction of the CMC to ensure flow of 12 TMC in December is extremely burdensome on the state of Karnataka. When we are running in shortage, how can we be directed to ensure 12 TMC flow?” Mr Shettar asked in his letter to the PM, who is also the chairman of the Cauvery River Authority. “The recommendation of the CMC should be rejected by you at the earliest to save the standing crops in Karnataka.”
