Shillong ‘Phantom’ in police net
From entering houses through ventilators after climbing walls to preparing coffee or frying an egg before making an escape, 'Phantom' eluded the police for six years, but finally landed in police net.
David Lyngdoh, 24, was nicknamed as Phantom by the police for his daring acts of burglary whose modus operandi had often foxed the law keepers.
Additional SP (crime) Vivek Syiem said his luck finally ran out on Tuesday when he was arrested from his in-laws' residence at Nongspung village in East Khasi Hills District.
Though police records put the number of his acts of burglary at 13, the authorities believe he has committed more crimes, which have not been registered.
The ASP said David specialised in stealing motorcycles and often used to prepare coffee and fry an egg before making good his escape.
He was once caught in 2008 and admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital on medical grounds, but managed to escape. A sub-inspector, who was on duty at the hospital, was suspended for dereliction of duty.
