Shiv Sena- NCP clash in Mumbai
Mumbai: Shiv Sena and NCP workers today clashed over a union office near the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here after trade unionist Kiran Pawaskar, who quit the Sena and joined NCP recently, went to take charge of the office, police said.
Pawaskar, who quit Shiv Sena and his seat in the Maharashtra Legislative Council last week, was recently inducted into the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
As Pawaskar, who was heading a cabin crew union affiliated with the Shiv Sena at the airport, reached the office, the saffron party workers stopped him from entering, resulting in a heated argument among workers from both the parties.
"Sena workers claimed that the office belonged to their party, while NCP workers said the office was of Pawaskar. This resulted in the clashes," Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal said.
Some vehicles were damaged during stone pelting by the workers, police said adding their teams reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
