Shivshankar Menon pays visit to Russia

India's National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon on Wednesday paid a visit to Russia ahead of a quadrilateral summit to be hosted by President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi to discuss security issues in the restive Af-Pak region.

The Indian Embassy and Russian officials have refrained from divulging any information on Menon's 24-hour long Moscow visit, which ended tonight.

Mr Menon is believed to have held wide-ranging talks here during his blitz visit. The Russian Security Council has also not issued any customary release on its website.
The quadrilateral summit — including Presidents of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Russia — will discuss issues of security in the Af-Pak region, effective combat against international terrorism and drug-trafficking in Sochi on Thursday, according to sources.

Indo-Russian interaction in combating international terrorism had been institutionalised in the context of developments in the Af-Pak region.

On the eve of the quadrilateral summit, Kremlin foreign policy aide Sergei Prikhodko said that during his bilateral meeting, besides the state of political dialogue between the countries, President Dmitry Medvedev is to discuss with President Zardari “topical issues”.

"We will talk about Russia's interaction with Pakistan, about Pakistan's interaction with Afghanistan and India, and the situation as a whole in the region," Prikhodko was quoted as saying by agencies.
