Shoe better than stone, says Omar

Srinagar, Aug. 15: A suspended J&K policeman facing criminal cases hurled a shoe at the Chief Minister, Mr Omar Abdullah, from the VIP stand at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium on Sunday.

It did not hit him, but fell on the ground near the podium. The shoe-thrower, head constable Abdul Ahad Jan, who was said to be “mentally sick”, was swiftly whisked away. Mr Abdullah, unfazed, shrugged off the incident saying: “It’s the best way to protest... better to hurl shoes and avoid stone-pelting.”
