Shootout on Delhi-Agra highway, two killed
Two people were killed and one person was injured critically on Tuesday when unidentified assailants first rammed their car on the New Delhi-Agra highway and then sprayed bullets at the passengers in the vehicle.
The incident occurred around noon on the busy highway. Three people were moving from Mathura towards Vrindavan nearby when another car veered towards their vehicle and rammed into it, police said.
The car skidded and came to halt. Before the unsuspecting occupants could anticipate what awaited them, six people came out of the other car and opened fire at them.
Two occupants of the car were instantly killed while another was critically wounded.
A traffic jam clogged movement of vehicles on the busy highway after the shootout. Senior police officials had rushed to the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants sped towards Delhi. Police officials said they suspected a land deal and personal animosity from an earlier murder as reasons behind the shootout.
