Sibal gets SC rap for 2G loss remark
New Delhi, Jan. 21: The telecom minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, on Friday was criticised by the Supreme Court for his assertion that the CAG’s projection of a `1.76 lakh crore loss in the sale of 2G spectrum licences was erroneous, with the court describing his statement as “unfortunate and irresponsible” and said it expected him to have “behaved” in a more responsible manner.
Mr Sibal clarified that “canards” had to be replied to but maintained he meant no disrespect.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Mr M.M. Joshi, also took strong objection to Mr Sibal’s remarks and requested Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, to take “prompt” and “effective” steps to stop such “constitutional impropriety” by ministers.
