Sibal hasn't learnt lesson from zero-loss theory from 2G: BJP

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal's comments that there was no loss in coal block allocation as there was no mining today drew severe criticism from BJP which alleged he has not learnt lessons from similar theory he had propounded in the 2G spectrum case.

"The comments of Kapil Sibal that there is no loss as there was no mining of coal shows once again that he has not learnt any lesson. He had to suffer public ridicule on his zero-loss theory in the 2G spectrum case," Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad told agencies.

BJP maintained that while the base price for 2G spectrum was fixed at Rs 1,658 crore it has been determined at Rs 14,000 crore at the re-auction done recently.

"This new base price of Rs 14,000 crore was determined by his own government's EGOM headed by Union Minister P Chidambaram and that too under adverse market conditions prevailing in 2012," Prasad said.

BJP said a coal mine going to a company adds to its net worth and maket value.

"They have not paid a single Rupee for it and have not mined it in the last 4-5 years and government has lost huge opportunity cost," Prasad said.

BJP alleged these comments from Sibal show the government does not want a debate on the coal allotment issue.

"If this is the kind of debate Congress wants, it reinforces once again that the government is not serious about debate and runs away from accountability," Prasad said.
