Sibal meets Big 3, assures spectrum fair play
Union telecommunications and IT minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday met top telecom industrialists Ratan Tata, Anil Ambani and Sunil Bharti Mittal to assure them that the government will be fair and transparent to the industry.
Mr Sibal discussed the government’s decisions and tried to understand their viewpoint. He is said to have raised concerns over corporate rivalry and its negative impact. “If you are not open when the government is functioning then obviously people will make allegations and those who lose out will start making allegations against those who gain. Then it is the beginning of a corporate war. This shouldn’t happen,” Mr Sibal told a news channel after the meeting. The minister said he conveyed to the industry that there will not be any discrimination. “What is important for me to convey to the industry is that this government will not allow any sense of discrimination in the sector. Each player will be dealt with fairly and our policies will be transparent and will happen through a dialogue. They are very happy with that,” said Mr Sibal. The minister said policy intervention was needed so that enough spectrum, a limited resource, could be made available to all parties.
