Signal defect delays trains at Madurai
Chennai: Seven trains running between Madurai and Egmore ran late by around 3 hours owing to signal defect at Madurai on Sunday. All Chennai-bound trains were stranded at the station due to the technical snag at the junction.
Pearl City express, which was to arrive at 7.45 in the morning, was late by 4 hours when it reached Egmore station.
However, railway officials confirmed the technical snag was immediately rectified. The authorities added that no other lines were disturbed.
Other trains that got delayed were Tiruchendhur Chennai express which got delayed by nearly 3 hours, Kanyakumari express which was to arrive at 6.50 in the morning at Egmore got delayed by nearly 3 hours. Nellai express from Tirunelveli, Pallavan express, Pothigai express reached around 3 hours late at Egmore.
Many people who had come to receive their dear ones at the station were left stranded. People waiting for the train for its return journey also crowded the station in the morning.“I came here to receive my son who has been returning from hostel after a long time. But this delay has put my patience to test,” said passenger, M. Radha at the Egmore railway station.
