Sikh outfit calls killings ‘barbaric’
An alliance of Kashmiri Sikh outfits has condemned the “excessive” use of force against the Muslim protesters “barbaric and inhumane killings” in the hands of security forces in the Valley and asked the chief minister Omar Abdullah to take moral responsibility and step down. It also called for imposition of governor’s rule in the state to end the turmoil.
It, however, castigated Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its “playing politics over the dead bodies.” Its locking the gates of civil secretariat in Srinagar earlier this week was “only a political gimmick to score points over the government whereas fight now the job of a healthy opposition was to support the government in calming down the situation,” the alliance Guru Manyo Granth Society said. It said that at an emergency meeting held with the society chief Jasdeep Singh in chair it also urged governor N.N. Vohra to take control of the government as the governor’s rule could end the present crisis.
The society urged the Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the leader of the Hurriyat Conference to desist from issuing frequent strike calls.
