Sikhs feel neglected, want quota
Various Sikh organisations of Jammu and Kashmir have asked for a special package from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who is arriving here on a 2-day visit on Monday.
The community leaders who met here on Sunday under the banner of Guru Manyo Granth Society expressed concern over what they alleged is systematic neglect of the minority Sikh community over the hands of the successive state governments. “We’ve suffered a lot during the past 20 years of turmoil in the Valley but decided against migration to stand shoulder to shoulder with their Muslim brethren,” they said in a joint statement issued after the meeting which demands that the Sikhs of the Valley should be given the status of minority in the state and should be entitled for all type of scholarships and other benefits attached with the status.
The meeting also demanded reservation in all the state and central government jobs, educational institutes and other such sectors.
