Singur dam gets heavy inflows

Hyderabad/Anantapur: Heavy rains in the catchment area of the Manjira river is bringing huge inflows into the Singur dam. The water level is at its highest in a year.
About 1.361 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet) of water flowed into the dam on Wednesday, increasing the water availability in Singur to 11.704 tmc ft. compared to 10.362 tmc ft on the corresponding date last year (July 24, 2012). The water level is 1,702.511 ft against last year’s 1,700.870 ft.
Increase in water levels in Singur is crucial as the dam supplies 120 MGD water to the city everyday.
“Though 11 tmc ft water is enough to supply 120 MGD (million gallons daily) to the city till the next monsoon, we are expecting that this time the water level will reach the full tank level of nearly 30 tmc ft by the end of September,” Hyderabad Water Board chief general manager (transmission) Sundar Ram Reddy said.
Meanwhile, the low-lying areas, under Tungabhadra river, were alerted after heavy inflows continued into the reservoir leaving more than 80,000 cusecs of out flowing from nearly 28 crest gates of reservoir, at Hospet, in Bellary district.
Tungabhadra water reached the state borders, at Mantralayam, in Kurnool district, on Wednesday. Sri Raghavendra Swamy Math authorities have been alerted in the Mantralayam who inturn are taking precautionary measures.
The authorities alerted nearly 20 villages surrounding Adoni, Mantralayam and other areas. The district authorities have concentrated on precautionary measures against flood affected areas.
