Slain DSP’s widow fights with family

Four-and-a-half months after the killing of DSP Zia-ul-Haq in Pratapgarh, the DSP’s widow Parveen Azad is now battling his family over property and money.
The DSP’s widow, Parveen Azad, who is now an officer on special duty in the UP police, has field a case in the civil court in Deoria district against her father-in-law, Shamsul Hasan and mother-in-law Azra Khatoon, seeking a transfer of her share in the movable and immovable property of the family. The court has fixed the next hearing on July 26.
Talking to reporters in Deoria, the DSP’s father Shamsul Hasan explained the feud. “Zia had taken two LIC policies in 2009 and had named his parents as nominees. In June, the policies matured and the LIC sent a letter asking us to collect `9 lakhs and `3.20 lakhs. A LIC official informed me that Parveen had filed an objection that being the wife of the policy holder, she was entitled to the money.” The LIC asked Parveen Azad to prove that she was the nominee and the legal claimant of the money and submit an authenticated document to support her claim within 45 days.
Parveen Azad apparently filed the case in civil court, seeking the court’s intervention in getting her share of property. Shamsul Hasan said that his son had taken the policies in 2009 in which he had named his parents as nominees while his marriage to Parveen took place in 2012.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
