Sleuth probing pakistan pm is found dead
Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau assistant director Kamran Faisal, who was investigating the Rental Power Project (RPP) scam in which current Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is embroiled, was found dead at his residence on Friday, the police said.
The National Accountability Bureau officer was an integral part of the investigation. He was living in federal lodges and allegedly committed suicide due to extreme pressure and depression. Inspector-general of police Islamabad Bin Yameen said the body of the deceased was found hanging from a fan. “Apparently it looks like a suicide but nothing can be said for certain until after the post-mortem. The body has been shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem,” he added.
The family of the dead investigator has refused a post-mortem and alleged he was murdered. They said he could never have committed suicide
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had ordered the arrests of Prime Minister Ashraf and 15 others for allegedly receiving kickbacks and commissions in transactions involving rental power plants when Mr Ashraf was federal minister for water and power. On Thursday, the Supreme Court had reprimanded NAB chief Fasih Bokhari for failing to arrest the Prime Minister.
The court also issued a contempt notice to the NAB chief for making a mockery of the court’s order. Earlier, Mr Bokhari had told the court that he lacked the evidence to arrest the Prime Minister.
