SMS helps EC in polls in Assam
Chief electoral officer of Assam Hemanta Narzary here on Monday said that the use of technology has helped the commission in conducting free and fair polling in Assam.
Disclosing that software developed by the National Informatics Centre to record SMS of presiding officers has given miraculous result, Mr Narzary told this newspaper that they introduced a new methodology in this election by asking presiding officers to send 13 SMS since their departure to the polling stations.
“We asked presiding officers to send 13 SMS on their arrival at polling station, condition of EVMs and progress of polling at different stages. This not only helped us in keeping the commission updated about polling but was also instrumental in replacing faulty EVMs and responding to the crisis situation,” he said referring that more than once the Commission rushed enforcement to the polling party facing problem.
