Want to stop a marriage forced on you? It could be a just an SMS away!

Well, it was true with a 17-year-old girl from Pattabhiram who found SMS a handy tool to stop her marriage with her uncle scheduled for next week.

The minor girl, a resident of Kakkanji nagar, who just completed her Plus-2 examination, was totally against her marriage with 32-year-old uncle, working in railways.

But her mother, who thought it could be good deal, if she could marry off her daughter to her brother. Though the girl resisted the marriage plan, her mother went ahead with printing invitation. The marriage was scheduled for April 25.

With no other option, the girl started sending SMS to her classmates and friends about the proposed marriage and pleaded them to stop her marriage.

“Four of her classmates came to our station and said that their classmate was being forced to wedlock by her mother. The students wanted us to intervene.

They also showed us the SMS send by the girl. So we decided to take action,” the police said. “We brought mother and the girl to the station for inquiries. The girl said her mother was planning to marry her off. Her mother also confessed she wanted to conduct her daughter’s marriage as early as possible.”
