Some in BJP upset with Sushma Modi remarks
Adding to its woes, remarks by senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, suggesting Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was not required for campaigning in Bihar polls, has not gone down well among a section of party leaders.
Taking serious objection to Ms Swaraj’s remarks, this section has also raised the issue with the party’s top brass.
“Modi’s magic and charisma have worked in Gujarat but it is not necessary that everybody’s magic works at every place,” Ms Swaraj had said on Monday in Patna. Though she claimed that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had not put any condition on the issue of Modi campaigning in the state, she added that it would be better if the “old arrangement” continued under which the Gujarat chief minister had not campaigned during the 2005 Bihar Assembly polls and Lok Sabha polls in 2009.
For the BJP, the issue of whether Mr Modi, one of the star campaigners, will campaign in the poll-bound state or not remains controversial.
