Sonawane murder: Maha govt mulling fast track trial
Mumbai: Maharashtra government is mulling trial of 11 people, accused in the burning alive of additional district collector Yashwant Sonawane, in a fast track court, a top police official said today.
"We have never come across such a heinous crime. The government has taken a stand that the case should be expedited and we have also been told to ensure the punishment given to the accused at the earliest.
Government is considering to try the accused in a fast track court," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) K.P. Raghuvanshi told reporters.
He said that adulteration rackets in petrol, diesel, kerosene, milk and grease have been busted across the state after the incident and nearly 180 people associated with these gangs have been arrested under relevant sections.
Chandrapur, Vardha, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Ahmednagar, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai were among the districts where the raids were being conducted, Raghuvanshi said.
