Sonia’s strategy at CPP on Monday?
With the Opposition demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam stalling Parliament for the entire Winter Session, a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party has been convened Monday, when the session is due to end.
Sensing that the Opposition is preparing for a showdown on the streets afterwards, Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to reveal the party’s strategy and may exhort MPs to counter the offensive by effectively communicating the government’s viewpoint to the people.
The CPP meeting will be Mrs Gandhi’s first interaction with party MPs after the recent Bihar elections, in which the Congress got a drubbing despite the active role played by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in the campaign.
Recent days have seen Mrs Gandhi grappling with one controversy after another, including the Commonwealth Games mess and the Adarsh scam.
While each Parliament session used to have two CPP general body meetings, one at the beginning and another shortly before its end, recent sessions have seen these meetings reduced to a single one.
