Hyderabad: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has begun an exercise to find an amicable solution to the present crisis over the bifurcation of the state. Though there will be no compromising on the decision to divide the state, Sonia Gandhi will take some steps to allay the apprehensions being voiced by different sections of society.
An indication to this effect has come after Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s meeting with Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday afternoon at 10 Janpath. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was also present.
Sources said that the Chief Minister initially requested that the decision to carve out Telangana state be reversed, but Sonia Gandhi turned down the request.
However, she assured him that steps will be taken to address the genuine grievances that have been voiced. At this stage Reddy suggested the appointment of a high-level expert committee to address the problems being expressed by those in the Seemandhra region.
The expert committees should be appointed by the Centre to go into issues such as employees, irrigation, power, medical and health, finances, and status of Hyderabad. Sonia Gandhi asked the CM to take steps to pacify the Seemandhra agitators.
T decision taken after consulting all
The CM told AICC president Sonia Gandhi that in addition to the four lakh government employees who are on strike, two lakh teachers will join the strike from on Thursday. He told her unless their issues are attended to, it will be difficult to control the situation.
After his meeting with the Congress president in the afternoon, Kiran Reddy tried to get an appointment with the Prime Minister, but when that did not materialise, he returned to Hyderabad.
Before leaving Delhi, he met with state ministers camping in Delhi and hinted that the whole process of bifurcation could stretch beyond the 2014 elections.
Meanwhile, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh told newspersons in Delhi that the decision to bifurcate the state was taken after “each and every political party in the state had clearly expressed their opinion on the issue. We cannot be blamed on this (bifurcation). All parties had told us to do it. But we are here to do justice to all regions and people.”
In reply to a question, Kiran Singh said that fresh proposals like Hyderabad city as Union Territory and Rayala-Telangana will be considered by the A.K. Antony Committee.
