Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi differ on Telangana
Hyderabad: AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her son and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi have different opinions on the Telangana issue. While Sonia Gandhi is for creation of Telangana state, Rahul Gandhi is not in favour of the division of the state.
According to top sources, Sonia Gandhi told a senior Union Cabinet minister of the divided opinions recently when the Telangana issue came up for discussion.
According to the source, Sonia Gandhi told the minister: “I have made a promise on Telangana issue when Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy was Chief Minister, but it has got delayed for various reasons. How can I go back on my promise? But Rahul is not in favour of dividing the state.”
The minister reportedly replied to Sonia Gandhi: “There should be no more discussions or consultations on the Telangana issue. Everyone including Congress leaders have different opinions. Take your own decision at the earliest.”
In fact, senior Congress leaders who are in the core committee also hold different opinions on the issue. AP Congress affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh is also in favour of creation of Telangana state. It was pointed that that the NDA government had created Chhattisgarh state when Singh was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.
