Sonia meets PCC chiefs, CLP leaders

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is currently taking stock of the situation across the country through her meetings with the PCC chiefs and CLP leaders against the backdrop of the fuel price hike, internal security and the coming Assembly elections in key states.

“It’s a marathon meeting. Soniaji wants to know the ground situation in different parts of the country,” said a party official who attended such a meeting.
Mrs Gandhi undertook this exercise ahead of the Congress president’s election expected to be held on July 25. Before that, the CWC will meet to fix a date for the election of Congress president.
She is holding state-wise meetings of PCC chiefs, CLP leaders and the AICC general secretary in charge of the concerned states.
Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and Goa officials have already met and their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other key states are expected to call on her in the next couple of days to give a first-hand report of their respective states.
The central leaders of the party were surprised by the success to the Opposition’s Bharat bandh call against the overall price rise.
Barring Andhra, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, the Congress is not in power in any key state.
The party might have revived in UP but it is becoming weak in Andhra due to infighting while it is not in a position to come to power in Maharashtra on its own.
If insiders are to be believed, Mrs Gandhi wanted to know the agitational activities of the party in the Opposition-ruled states.
The Congress will hold zonal conferences in five zones it has created across the country for the 125 years’ celebrations of the formation of the Indian National Congress.
The AICC general secretary in charge of the state where the conference would be held would be the coordinator with the PCC chief and CLP leaders.
The dates for the proposed zonal conferences have not yet been formalised but it is expected to be announced shortly, a party official said.
The conferences would be followed by a plenary of the party, which is expected to be held in December.
Meanwhile, the Congress on Tuesday attacked the BJP for making comments on constitutional authorities —— Karnataka governor H.R. Bhardwaj over his remarks on corruption in the state.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
