Sonia to spell out party’s strategy
Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to addr-ess a CPP general body meeting next week agai-nst the backdrop developments within the UPA, suspension of the decision on the FDI in retail and the Lokpal issue.
“Soniaji will address a CPP general body meeting next week,” well-placed sources said here on Thursday.
The meeting is being called at a time when the Congress ally in the UPA — the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul Congress — has virtually joined the Opposition in the FDI issue and thereby compelling the government to suspend it.
In fact, a delegation of the West Bengal Congress MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the day to draw his attention to how the chief minister Mamata Banerjee is playing politics with the Congress even in the developmental works.
The marginalised DMK on the spectrum allocation scam, is refusing to nominate its members for the two Cabinet rank ministries which have been kept vacant following the resignation of A. Raja and Dayanidhi Maran.
On the other hand, the Congress’ supporting parties — Samajwadi Party and the BSP — have become its main rivals in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Mrs Gandhi is expected to put the record straight on the party’s relations with the allies and supporting parties and give direction to the party workers on how to face the forces trying to check the Congress behind the Lokpal issue.
The Congress is against in bringing the PM under the ambit of Lokpal fearing that it will lead to destablise the country.
