Sonia visits victims in hospital
Concerned over the building collapse in which 66 lives were lost, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday visited the victims in LNJP Hospital, which received the maximum number of cases of injuries as well as deaths.
Mrs Gandhi, accompanied by the Delhi Congress chief J.P. Agarwal, reached LNJP around 11.45 am and stayed at the hospital for about half-an-hour. She met the medical superintendent and inquired about the condition of those injured and also the facilities at the hospital to deal with the situation. With Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and other officials also present, Mrs Gandhi is understood to have asked her to ensure that every possible help was extended to those affected. She also reportedly assured the victims and their relatives that the government would do everything necessary to help them out in their hour of crisis.
Mrs Gandhi also said that the guilty should not be spared and strict action should be taken against them. Mrs Gandhi also met some of the victims and inquired about their condition before leaving the hospital. She is also understood to be in touch with the chief minister about the rescue efforts being undertaken at the site of the collapse at Laxmi Nagar.
