SP corrects course, woos Azam
Though Samajwadi Party has initiated serious efforts to repair its raptured Muslim-Yadav combination, the expelled party founder, Azam Khan, continues to make the SP chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, toil hard for undoing damages done by another estranged leader Amar Singh. Not willing to compromise on his demand of a public apology from Mr Yadav, Mr Khan recently slipped away from Rampur in UP, after he came to know that a special emissary was sent to hold talks with him by the SP chief.
Sources revealed that the SP chief is now working on his plans to set the party’s erstwhile “M-Y” equation right, which hinges largely on the comeback of Mr Khan, who was expelled from the party after his no-holds-barred public feud with Mr Amar Singh on the issue of nomination of Jaya Prada from Rampur Lok Sabha constituency last year.
“A close family member of Mulayam’s family was recently sent to Rampur to meet Mr Khan. However, the expelled leader gave a slip to him,” sources stated.
However, the SP chief has not given up on his attempts to bring back Mr Khan and is likely to make another bid soon.
In the recent times, former SP leaders, who had left the party in the backdrop of the trust vote in the Parliament on the issue of the Indo-US nuclear deal in 2008, have told the top brass of the SP that the process to undo the damage done by Mr Amar Singh has to begin with a reconciliation with Mr Khan.
