SP says will seek legal opinion
Samajwadi Party spokesman Mohan Singh said his party was seeking legal opinion to sue BJP chief Nitin Gadkari for likening the SP and RJD chiefs to “dogs” in remarks made on Wednesday. He said the BJP chief’s
comments reflect the “deep-rooted bias which the RSS and BJP have against people of lower castes and shows their support for the caste system”.
He also rubbished reports that the SP broke the Opposition’s unity by siding with the UPA and abstaining from voting in favour of the cut motion against the government. Mr Singh, in fact, charged the BJP with siding with the Congress on the women’s reservation bill to which the Yadavs are opposed.
Earlier, the SP chief’s son, Mr Akhilesh Yadav, said, “The SP follows Ram Manohar Lohia’s principles. It has faith in healthy change and decent democracy. We do not believe in using foul language even against our political rivals.”
RJD and SP supporters burnt Mr Gadkari’s effigy and raised slogans protesting his comments against their leaders. The Congress said Mr Gadkari had used derogatory language.
