Spectrum scam: CBI defends PC, blames dot
In the wake of recent controversy involving P. Chidambaram, the CBI on Thursday maintained that the agency has completed its probe from all possible angles and did not find union home minister’s complicity in the 2G spectrum scam case.
Sources said, “The agency in its probe into the 2G Spectrum scam case did not find any evidence of criminal conspiracy against former finance minister Chidambaram.”
As far as the note of the finance ministry to the PMO is concerned, sources said, “We can only say that CBI sleuths examined all relevant documents during the 2G probe. In fact, probe by the agency revealed that finance ministry had been opposing the policy of department of telecommunication (DoT) of first-come first serve.”
“Probe also revealed that former telecommunications minister A. Raja and top officials of the DoT sat on request for review made by the department of economic affairs, which had objections on fixing `1,600 crores as licence fee for the unified access services licences,” sources said.
The agency’s probe into the 2G scam has revealed that the DEA was concerned over the figure of `1,600 crores (fixed in 2001) and wanted that licences should be auctioned.
