Speed kills 3 IAF men, 2 kids in a day in Delhi
Three Air Force personnel were killed and four persons, including a woman, were injured on Sunday morning when an overspeeding Skoda car rammed into a Maruti van on Rajpath.
According to the police, the incident took place at the Rajpath-Janpath crossing near National Museum at around 9.30 am when the victims were on their way to Akshardham.
The speeding Skoda car was coming from Connaught Place.
The deceased have been identified as Manish Chauhan, 23, Lakhan Das, 38, and J.K. Chakravarty, 48, while Chakravarty’s wife Meenakshi, 45, S.S. Vaisakh, 24, Shailendra, 23, and Ajay, 22, were injured in the mishap.
Except for Meenakshi, all others are employees of Indian Air Force.
The victims’ vehicle was heading towards India Gate when a Skoda car driven by Nishant Kumar, 26, who was going towards National Museum from Connaught Place rammed into it, the police said.
Nishant Kumar is a driver with an exporter.
He has been arrested in connection with the mishap. Chauhan died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital during treatment.
The injured are undergoing treatment at RML Hospital.

Boy killed as car hits bike; girl crushed
New Delhi, Oct. 2: A girl was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle at Khaj-oori Khas in northeast Delhi.
According to the police, 12-year-old Roopa was crushed to death by an unidentified vehicle. A case has been registered at the Khajoori Khas police station.
In another accident on Sardar Patel Marg at around 7 pm, a motorcycle on which four of a family were travelling was hit by a car from behind.
11-year-old Gautam was travelling with his parents Govardhan Joshi and Sonia and his sister Bhumi. Govardhan works in the audit department of Indian Army and was going to Connaught Place from Delhi Cantonment.
A speeding car driven by Sarabjeet, 19, hit them from behind. The four were rushed to RML Hospital where Gautam was declared brought dead.
Sarabjeet has been arrested. He had taken the car without his father’s knowledge.
