Split with JD-U will be suicide: BJP
Sources disclosed that a majority section within the BJP’s central leadership is of the view that BJP would commit a political suicide, if it choses to sever ties with JD(U) at this moment. The saffron party has 54 MLAs while JD(U) has 81 in the 243 member assembly. The magic figure is 122 to run the government in the state.
“Even if we presume that BJP and JD(U) decide to part ways. Then what next for both of them. One should not forget that RJD is equaly strong in the state, which at present has 56 members in the state assembly. If BJP and JD(U) part ways their combined votes will get distributed and would end up benefitting RJD and LJP,” said a senior party functionary.
The crisis in the NDA in the state emerged after Bihar chief minister returned the Kosi relief fund given by Gujarat chief minister. Mr Kumar had reacted angrily to an advertisement on the eve of the BJP national executive meeting which said that Gujarat had contributed liberally towards relief for victims of the Kosi floods.
