Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple security in trouble
There's trouble with security at the Sree Padmanabha Swami temple where the discovery of a treasure trove created ripples recently.
The guards, who provided security to the temple for several decades, are reportedly not happy to have the police take over their duties following the unearthing of the treasure in its secret chambers.
Although 250 police are deployed in and around the temple, as against 50 security guards employed by its administration, their duties are clearly demarcated. While the police are in charge of crowd control and security of the chambers, the security guards are responsible for checking violations of temple customs and crowd management.
But deputy commissioner of police Sanilkumar, who is in charge of security at the Sree Padmanabha Swami temple, has complained to the city police commissioner and the temple administration about the 'abusive behaviour' of the temple's security guards.
The temple administration however, claims petty issues are being blown out of proportion.
Temple administrative officer, Jayasekharan Nair says there is no real problem between the security guards and the police.
“Attempts are being made by certain quarters to deliberately create an impression that all is not well with the temple administration. There seems to be a hidden agenda to weaken the position of the temple, when a case against its management is pending before the court,” he said.
