Srinagar shivers at minus four, Leh in deep freeze
With the night temperatures dipping to minus four degrees Celsius, Friday was the coldest day of the season so far in summer capital Srinagar.
"The minimum temperature fell to minus 3.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar today, making Friday the coldest day of the season so far here," an official of the local meteorological office told IANS.
"The dry, cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another two to three days after which we are expecting some relief from the present cold wave in the Valley," he said.
The minimum temperature was minus 4.2 degrees in south Kashmir Pahalgam hill station while it was minus 7.8 degrees in north Kashmir Gulmarg ski resort.
"Leh in the Ladakh region was the coldest town in the state at minus 13.0 degrees today," the official said.
People again complained of frozen water taps Friday morning and at many places they were seen lighting small fires around the taps to de-freeze them, especially in the city suburbs.
