Srini can’t take charge as chief of BCCI: SC
The Supreme Court on Friday allowed N. Srinivasan to attend the BCCI annual general meeting in Chennai on Sunday and even contest the election for the president’s post. But it restrained Mr Srinivasan from taking charge as BCCI president, if elected to the post, till its further orders.
“In the meanwhile, the proposed AGM of BCCI will be held on September 29 and the election in the AGM can also be held. In case Srinivasan is elected as president, he will not take charge until further orders,” a bench comprising Justices A.K. Patnaik and J.S. Kehar said.
The bench took strong exception to Mr Srinivasan still holding charge at BCCI when his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan has been chargesheeted over the IPL spot-fixing case. “Why he is in charge (as BCCI president) if his son-in-law has been chargesheeted? Why you (Srinivasan) are so keen to be elected?” the bench asked, making it clear he cannot take charge till the matter is decided by it.
