SRK in soup over ‘cheergirls’
“Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi naamumkin hai!” Shah Rukh Khan reiterated this well-known movie line while he danced with a bevy of beauties at a private function.
But even the “Don” wouldn’t have guessed that he was courting danger as the Kochi police is now after him.
The Ernakulam judicial first class magistrate court on Tuesday directed the Palarivattom police to register a case against “King Khan” for “dancing with cheer girls” during his visit to Kochi because he had violated the Indecent Publication of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Magistrate M. Ijas passed the order when the criminal miscellaneous petition was filed by Mathew Saju Pulluvazhi of Perumbavoor.
Shah Rukh Khan was in the city to inaugurate the showroom of Emmanuel Silks and had given a performance with some “scantily dressed” women artistes at the Kaloor International Stadium.
The petitioner had argued that the actor had violated the act by performing with a group of cheer leaders.
The petitioner pointed out that the publication or exhibition of any advertisement, which contained the indecent representation of women in any form, was punishable with imprisonment for a term which could extend upto two years and with a fine which could be in the region of `2,000.
The court also directed the police to register a crime against the managing partners T.O. Byju and T.O. Shyju of Thrissur as the petitioner argued that the showroom owner and the actor had violated the norms as per the act.
An indecent representation of women means the depiction in any manner of the figure of a woman; her form or body or any part thereof in such a way as to have the effect of being indecent, or derogatory to, or denigrating women, or is likely to deprave, corrupt or injure the public morality or morals, the petitioner argued.
