Clashes between agitating groups and policemen are being reported from different localities.
The mob comprised mourners returning from a nearby cemetery after burying 24-year-old Muhammad Rafiq Bangroo, who succumbed in hospital late Saturday night days after allegedly being beaten up by CRPF men.
Hours after the fresh killing, the city’s seniormost police officer, senior superintendent of police Riyaz Bedar, was summarily removed after a high-level meeting chaired by chief minister Omar Abdullah. He was replaced by SSP (counter intelligence) Syed Ashiq Bukhari. The CM also directed Srinagar divisional commissioner Tanveera Jahan to inquire into the incident and report in a week.
