Stalin-Alagiri patchup on cards?

Finally the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) patriarch can heave a sigh of relief. In an act that could excite him, Union minister for chemicals and fertilisers M.K. Alagiri landed at the Delhi airport to receive deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu and his sibling M.K. Stalin, who arrived in the capital to participate in the National Development Council (NDC) meeting. This is the first time that Mr Alagiri has gone out of his way to give an impression that all is well between the two brothers.

This courtesy extended by Mr Alagiri has surprised political pundits here in Delhi and puzzled the DMK’s opponents who desire to see the brothers at loggerheads that will ultimately lead to the ruining of the DMK. When Mr Alagiri was spotted at the airport just before the arrival of the flight that carried Mr M.K. Stalin, reporters present there were themselves taken aback. In what could be described as an icing on the cake, MP Kanimozhi too was present on the occasion to give a warm welcome to her brother.
Mr Alagiri’s meteoric rise began after he won for the party the constituency of Thirumangalam in a bypoll that was held after the DMK came to power in 2006. He defied the opinion pollsters and the anti-incumbency factor to ensure the victory of his party by a huge margin.
That the DMK went on to win all the bypolls conducted since then is beside the point.
Immediately after that, he was made the organising secretary for the party in the south of Tamil Nadu. Ever since he always nursed ambitions of making it big in politics.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
