Stalin meets brother Alagiri after 3 years to bury hatchet
In an attempt to sink differences within the Karunanidhi family and the party, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin called on his elder brother M.K. Alagiri at his residence here on Monday after almost three years.
Mr Stalin, accompanied by his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, son-in-law Sabareesan and senior leader K.N. Nehru, was closeted with his brother for nearly an hour.
“There is nothing unusual in younger brother meeting his elder brother,” he quipped when mediapersons asked him about the significance of the meeting as he emerged from his brother’s house.
Senior functionaries said that Stalin made a surprise visit on instructions from his father and party president M. Karunanidhi to sort out the differences and to extend his moral support at a time when the Union minister is facing a plethora of problems, including imminent legal action against his son Durai Dayanithi in the granite scam.
“Our leader has been assured of total support from Stalin and the party. The recent unpleasant happenings, mostly a media creation, have rattled not only the image of the party but also the relationship between the siblings. This has been sorted out and Alagiri has also been asked to revive his party activities as in the past,” an Alagiri loyalist said Mr Stalin‘s visit comes immediately after Dayalu Ammal’s 10-day stay at Mr Alagiri’s Vickramangalam farm house and suggests a patch-up between the estranged brothers.
