Stamp to honour Gandhian Page in July 2011
The minister of state in the ministry of communications and information technology Gurudas Kamat on Tuesday said the department of posts will issue a commemorative postage stamp on late veteran Gandhian Congress leader V.S. Page in recognition of his services to the society. He was the former chairman of the maharashtra legislative council and the pioneer of the revolutionary Employment Guarantee Scheme which is currently being implemented across the country in the name of MGNREGA.
Recognising the yeomen services rendered to the society by late Page, Maharashtra legislators — Mohan Joshi, and Ulhas Pawar had demanded the release of a postage stamp on the late leader during his birth centenary year and accordingly, Mr Kamat had directed the department of posts to take necessary action in the matter.
The commemorative postage stamp will be released in July, 2011.
Mr Kamat further informed that Page was the first one to sow the seed of Employment Guarantee Scheme in India.

Bill to hike MP salaries is passed
AGE CORRESPONDENT
New Delhi
Parliament on Tuesday passed the bill to hike MPs salaries by over three times from `16,000 and doubling two of their key allowances. However, Left parties members staged a walkout on the issue when the Salary, Allowance and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2010, came up for discussion in Rajya Sabha. The bill has already been passed by Lok Sabha.
Some of the members also said that even the people at large criticised MPs for demanding their own salary hike, therefore, there should be an independent authority to look into the issue.
