State help desk reaches out to 120

Bengaluru: A special team from Karnataka which reached Dehradun on Wednesday has managed to contact at least 120 people from the state who are stranded in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

A team of three senior officials – DIG Hemanth Nimbalkar, Social Welfare Commissioner Naveenraj Singh and Karigowda from the Mines and Geology Department – arrived in Dehradun and set up a new Help Desk for the victims of Karnataka on Wednesday. The team held meetings with the district administration in Dehradun on Wednesday.

“We have established a help desk at Dehradun and are trying get information about the victims from the state. So far, over 100 people have contacted us and we are trying to figure how we can get them out from the rain-affected areas,” he said.

“The new helpline number for the victims from Karnataka-919412574052 - will be operational from Wednesday night,” said DIG Nimbalkar.

“A team officials has been stationed at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi. Here in Dehradun, we are concentrating on the victims who are stranded and have no access to food and supplies. By Thursday we hope we will have been able to contact all the people from Karnataka,” he added.
