Stop tarnishing police image: mumbai top cop
Responding to the suspension of 36 policemen from the Nehru Nagar police station, Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh on Saturday warned police officers against selling their self-respect for a few hundred rupees and tarnishing the name of the city police force.
The Mumbai police chief was speaking at the Grievance Redressal Day organised for local citizens at the Dahisar police station.
Addressing his staff, Mr Singh said, “Unlike hawkers and pavement-dwellers, the police force is quite fortunate. We should not sell our self-respect for a few hundred rupees. Introspection is required. The incident has brought shame to the Mumbai police in the eyes of the entire nation.”
Mr Singh also advised a few potbellied policemen to exercise everyday and stated that “unfit people are unfit for the force”.
He also condemned the recent series of custodial deaths.
Further, after suggestions from citizens, who attended the meeting, Mr Singh also announced that complaints put in the 1,000-odd complaint boxes across the city, would be opened in front of the citizens, ensuring complete transparency.
“Please inform us about the black sheep in our force, before they malign the department,” Mr Singh appealed to citizens.
