Hyderabad: The Santosh Nagar Police will seek the custody of Satya Prakash Singh, the accused in the kidnap and rape case of a student of Old City. Satya Prakash Singh, who was arrested by the police on Saturday, is presently in judicial custody. Besides other sections of the IPC, the police has also booked him under NIRBHAYA Act.
It may be mentioned that a girl from the Old City, who was reported missing at Santosh Nagar Police Station in April 2012, reached her family on Saturday and informed that she was kidnapped and repeatedly raped by Satya Prakash Singh, a canteen owner of a college.
Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Youth Association (GHYA) on Sunday held massive protest at the Santosh Police Station seeking stern against the culprits. In his representation made to Santosh Nagar inspector KVM Prasad, GHYA Chairman Mohammed Abdul Irfan demanded that all those involved in the crime should be severely punished and the rapists should get death sentences as it was done in the Delhi's Nirbhaya's case.
The inspector assured the GHYA activists that a special team has been set up to arrest all the accused persons and no one, including the three policemen of Meerpet PS, could escape the law, if they are guilty.
On the other side, the alleged rape case has started assuming political significance with both the Majlis Bachao Tehreek and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leaders demanding stern action against the culprit and those who supported him in the crime. MBT Corporator Md Amjadullah Khan Khaled took the lead by bringing the girl to the police station to lodge a complaint. The accused was later arrested by the police.
Student drugged, raped for a year
The video clips of the girl coming to police station, the statements of victim, her mother, police official and Amjadullah Khan went viral on the social networking sites and more than a dozen pages were created on Sunday seeking justice for the girl. The news coverage by certain newspapers too was widely shared by the Facebook users.
However, the FB users have ignored the basic rule that the identity of a rape victim should not be revealed.
The MIM leaders too swung into action with GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain visiting the victim's residence on Sunday. "On my way to riyasat nagar to meet the girl who faced so much hardship which no one can imagine & witstand, she was kidnapped and raped for 17 months, I WILL STAND WITH HER AND HER FAMILY AND WILL DO MY BEST TO PROVIDE THEM JUSTICE," Majid Hussain wrote on his Facebook wall.
About an hour later, he updated the status saying, "The house is locked , met Mr. Mohammed shoeb her cousin brother (mumere bhai), he updated me all what had happened, I assured him my party leadership stands with the girl and her family. Tld him to update the girl and her family that we will do our best so that Justice is done."

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
