Suicide by 3rd student in 3 days jolt to Patna
Yet another young student committed suicide here on Friday, the third student suicide in the city in the past three days, setting off alarm bells among educationists, parents and the state authorities.
The latest victim was a Class 10 girl of St. Dominic Savio High School, who hanged herself with her dupatta from a ceiling fan at home, much like the two previous instances. Nikki Kumari, 15, was found hanging dead inside a room she had apparently bolted from inside.
Her mother, Archana Kumari, returned from the market with vegetables in the morning and had to break open the door when the girl did not answer repeated calls.
“She has been an intelligent girl performing well in studies and having normal behaviour like most children her age. We are ignorant of the causes of her extreme action,” said a weeping Archana.
Nikki, however, left a suicide note on the bed, unlike the two suicides in the past two days — one a first-year medical student at Patna Medical College and Hospital and the other a student from an engineering college in Pune visiting his home in Patna. Ragging was reportedly behind both these suicides.
