Supporters in Mumbai continue fast
Unfazed by the events that unfolded overnight at the Ramlila Maidan, Baba Ramdev’s followers in Mumbai continued the fast-unto-death at Azad Maidan on Sunday.
On his directions, Baba Ramdev’s followers observed a “black day” on Sunday and will continue it on Monday. “This is a barbaric incident which is a throwback to the days when the British ruled India. We strongly condemn the incident and the fast-unto-death will be continued until we get further instructions from Baba Ramdev,” said Suresh Naik, the Mumbai president of the Bharat Swabhiman and Patanjali Yoga Samiti that organised the event.
The day started with a havan being performed at the event. Black flags were put up across the tent erected at Azad Maidan, and supporters kept waving them while criticising Baba Ramdev’s detention in Delhi.
Several of his followers also delivered motivational speeches throughout the day.
The striking followers also said they believed in silent protests and were not facing any problems from the Mumbai police.
“We have taken the requisite permissions from the police for observing a fast-unto-death at Azad Maidan. Till Sunday, we have received the support from around 3,500 persons and our fast-unto-death will be carried out peacefully,” Mr Naik added.
Meanwhile, there were strong reactions against the Delhi police’s detaining of Baba Ramdev.
