Sushma cautioned over Modi remarks
The BJP high command cautioned the Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj from making “unnecessary remarks.” Ms Swaraj was ticked off by party leadership for her remarks that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s “magic does not work everywhere” when she was asked whether Mr Modi will campaign for the Bihar Assembly polls.
Her comments not merely upset the Modi camp in the party but also displeased the party chief Nitin Gadkari, BJP parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.
Mr Gadkari on Thursday met Mr Advani to brief him about the situation. However, the BJP chief claimed that the Modi-Sushma war was only a “media creation.” Sources disclosed Ms Swaraj, who apparently nurtures prime ministerial ambitions, has been posturing for the post. Officially, the party said there were no differences between the two leaders and the Gujarat chief minister will campaign where ever the party asks him.
Sources said Mr Modi, who was miffed with Ms Swaraj’s comments, had raised the issue with Mr Gadkari.
Ms Swaraj, who was in Patna on Thursday, claimed she was misquoted and there were no differences with Mr Modi. She said some people were playing mischief by “planting” stories against her.
“There is no tension between me and Modi. There are no differences between us. Narendrabhai has a unique quality that he is never affected by media reports. He has not spoken to me on this. If he has anything on his mind, he would have talked to me,” Ms Swaraj said adding that she had called the Gujarat chief minister to congratulate him on BJP’s impressive victory in Gujarat local body elections.
She also denied reports that Mr Gadkari had raised the issue with her.
