Sushma: No pact with CPI(M)

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said on Tuesday that she never claimed that the Nair Service Society and the SNDP had offered support to her party in the Assembly elections.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, she said the BJP had only contacted these organisations requesting support.
Following Ms Sushma’s statement last week in Delhi, both the organisations had come out saying that they had reached no understanding with the BJP.
“What appeared in some sections of the media is a case of misreporting,” she said. “I had never said that they are supporting us.”
Asked about CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s remark that the BJP was trying to trap the NSS and SNDP, she said approaching an organisation for support cannot be construed as trapping.
To another question, she said there cannot be any alliance with the CPI(M) as both the parties are ideologically poles apart.
“Floor co-ordination in Lok Sabha is not an alliance,” said Ms Sushma. “We and the CPI (M) have disagreement on many issues.’’
She discounted the allegation that the BJP has some secret understanding with the LDF in the Malampuzha constituency, where Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is contesting.
“I reject the allegation as baseless. JD(U) is our coalition partner and had wanted the seat (Malampuzha where Achuthanandan is contesting). As a coalition dharma, we have given the seat to JDU,” she said.
BJP had only floor coordination with Left in the Parliament to take up common issues such as corruption against the UPA government, but differed on most other issues, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha said here.
She was responding to a question on KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala’s charge about an “unholy” nexus between CPI(M) and BJP at Malampuzha which he said was evident from the saffron party not fielding its candidate in Mallampuzha.
Mr Chennithala had alleged that the nexus between CPI(M) and BJP was continuing since the last civic polls.
Claiming that the BJP will perform well in the Assembly elections in three states, Ms Sushma said the party will function as responsible opposition in Kerala.
“We have set the example for what good governance is and what a responsible opposition should be,’’ she said.
