Suspected ISI agent held in Pune

The Pune police on Wednesday arrested a suspected ISI agent, with incriminating documents of Southern Command headquarters based in Pune, that were allegedly procured from an Army jawan.
The suspect has been identified as Vishambhar Tarachand Agarwal, a resident of Transport Nagar in Nigdi, who originally hails from Haryana. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Agarwal near the Alankar theatre in Pune on Wednesday. The police stated that in the preliminary grilling, Agarwal revealed that he was assisted by an Army jawan, identified as Brijesh Singh, who was posted at the Southern Command. The Army officials are conducting inquiries into this claim and Mr Singh is yet to be arrested. “Agarwal’s links with people based in Pakistan has been established. However, we cannot comment whether he was working for ISI, and we are investigating in that direction. The probe has revealed the involvement of an Army jawan, who is yet to be handed over to us,” said Pune police commissioner, Meeran Borwankar.

Nitin Mahajan
New Delhi

Feb. 2: Akashvani Bhavan, the headquarters of All- India Radio, located in the heart of the national capital may soon be declared a heritage building. Union information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni is understood to have instructed her department to initiate the process for conservation and declaration of the building as a heritage site soon after inspecting the building on Wednesday. The building houses the broadcasting heritage of the country and has served as headquarters of both Doordarshan and All-India Radio for several decades.
Sources stated that the minister has also directed officials that as part of the conservation efforts, a broadcasting museum be established in the building at the earliest.
“This would help the AIR in reaching out to the masses and making them aware of the rich broadcasting heritage of the national broadcaster which has been operational since 1936,” sources added. The museum would house several sections pertaining to broadcasting, equipment and archival material.
