Suspected Maoists kill contractor in Odisha
Suspected Maoists on Friday killed a contractor engaged in the construction of a road in Odisha's Koraput district, police said.
Jamai Prasad, 40, was found dead on a road between Laxmipur and Narayan Patna, over 500 km from here.
"Prasad was a contractor engaged in the construction of a road. He was hacked to death by the rebels," Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar told.
The killing comes three days after the guerrillas abducted an assistant sub-inspector of police in Nuapada district and killed him a few hours later.
Kruparam Majhi, 43, had been abducted on Tuesday by over 10 armed guerrillas near Sunabeda wild life sanctuary when he was escorting a water tanker to a para-military force camp, about 15 km away, along with a constable on a motorcycle. While the constable managed to escape, the rebels left behind the bullet-riddled body of Majhi.
